Senior Umbraco expertise — direct, without the overhead

I'm Peter Kindberg, a freelance Umbraco developer with 15+ years of commercial web development experience. When you hire me, the person you talk to is the person who writes the code: no handovers, no project-manager layer, no agency margin.

I take on new builds, upgrades and migrations, takeovers of existing solutions, and long-term support — for companies that need a senior specialist, and for agencies that need dependable white-label Umbraco capacity.

My background combines deep .NET and Umbraco work with a decade of data-driven marketing, so the websites I build are designed to perform commercially — not just technically.

What I can help you with

New Umbraco websites

Every new project starts from the KindbergCo Umbraco Platform — 500+ hours of production-tested foundation work with SEO structure, WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility groundwork and performance defaults built in. You get faster delivery and a cleaner starting point than a blank installation.

Upgrades & migrations

Umbraco 13 reaches end of life in late 2026, and many solutions need a planned path to Umbraco 17 LTS. I handle version upgrades end to end: compatibility review, package strategy, content and block migrations, and testing — with minimal disruption for editors and visitors.

Taking over an existing site

Developer left? Agency relationship not working out? I regularly take over Umbraco solutions built by others: a structured review of code and infrastructure, stabilization of anything urgent, documentation, and a pragmatic improvement plan. Rebuilding from scratch is the last resort, not the sales pitch.

Performance, SEO & accessibility

Audits and hands-on fixes: technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, caching, and accessibility against WCAG 2.2 AA principles. Built into how I work on every project — and available as a standalone engagement.

Support & retainers

Reserved senior time from 5 hours per month at discounted rates — for maintenance, security updates, new features, integrations and technical marketing work. Scheduled or ad-hoc, with priority response.

Freelancer or agency?

An honest answer: it depends. If you need a large multi-disciplinary team, guaranteed 24/7 coverage, or a dozen parallel workstreams, an agency is the right choice.

For most small and mid-sized Umbraco projects, a senior freelancer gives you faster decisions, lower total cost and clearer accountability — one experienced person who understands the whole solution, from architecture to the marketing goals behind it.

And if you are an agency: I work white-label alongside your team, support sites you've built, and scale your Umbraco capacity without a hiring process.

Frequently Asked Questions

I work across Umbraco 7 through 17, including upgrades between major versions. New projects are built on the latest LTS release. With Umbraco 13 reaching end of life in late 2026, upgrade planning is a big part of my current work.

Yes — that is a common scenario. I start with a structured review of the code, infrastructure and content setup, stabilize anything urgent, and document as I go. You get an honest assessment of what is worth improving and what should be left alone — not a reflexive recommendation to rebuild.

Both. I am based in Malta and work remotely by default, but I am available on-site across most of Europe — including the Nordics, the DACH region, the UK, France, Italy and Poland. For longer projects, up to two weeks on-site at a time works well. A small fee covers travel expenses.

We start with a short call — a virtual coffee — about your goals and the current state of your project. If it makes sense, I review your solution and send a written proposal covering scope, approach, risks and timeline. From there we work either fixed-scope or on an ongoing retainer.

Core knowledge

Being a blend of an IT developer and a marketer, I believe it's my holistic approach to IT and business needs that sets me apart from most other developers. Given my programming skills, my jobs have always been quite heavy on the technical side, such as data mining, enrichment, and tons and tons of API implementations.

One notable advantage of my diverse skillset is my ability to seamlessly translate complex information between management, marketing, and IT teams. This dual proficiency streamlines communication and enhances collaboration across diverse teams.

A brief summary of my core knowledge:

  • Specializing in Microsoft technologies - C#.Net, MS SQL, etc

  • Strong technical knowledge

  • Retention marketing strategy, with a special focus on email marketing

  • Strong commercial understanding, weighing cost vs quality

  • Automation of marketing, processes, etc

  • Data integrations, data mining, and profiling

  • Brainstorming of new functionality as well as the implementation of such
